Anti-Oxidant & Anti-Ageing

Anti-oxidants and anti ageing

It is a well-known fact that as we get older, our body and in particular our skin begins to change and age – it is part of the skins natural ageing process. Nowadays more people are looking for ways to slow down the ageing process and help preserve their health, as they get older.

On today’s market there are a number of supplements that could help with the anti-aging process, typically these comprise of:

Antioxidants – antioxidants are naturally occurring substances generally found in the foods we eat, such as fruit and vegetables. They have become increasingly popular due to their many health benefits, as they help to protect cells from damage caused by molecules called free radicals.
Examples of antioxidants include:

Beta carotene – Beta carotene has been said to speed up cell renewal, therefore may be able to reduce the appearance of age spots, whilst helping prevent the skin from ageing. Beta carotene can also help brighten the skin and make it glow.

Vitamin C – Vitamin C helps to protect cells, whilst keeping them healthy. The human body requires vitamin C for the development and repair of tissues in every part of the body. Furthermore Vitamin C is a key component in the manufacturing of collagen, a vital protein, which helps maintain healthy connective tissues and is key for the support and structure of skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines.

Some foods are especially good sources of Vitamin C, including; citrus fruits, such as lemons, limes and oranges, vegetables such as broccoli, brussel sprouts and potatoes, as well as fruit such as strawberries and blackcurrants.

Vitamin E – Vitamin E is found naturally in foods such as meat, vegetables and seeds and helps the skin look younger by boosting collagen production and in turn reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and age spots. Vitamin E may also help to strengthen your body's overall circulation and, thereby, help to prevent the accumulation of harmful toxins in your cells

Green Tea - Green Tea has many health benefits, in addition to this it can also be used to help slow down the ageing process. This is a result of a chemical called catechins, an antioxidant that can reduce cell damage on the skin, whilst helping repair wrinkles, impurities and age spots.

Selenium – Selenium protects the skin’s quality and elasticity, it is found naturally in foods such as, wheat germ, seafood and eggs. Selenium repels free radicals making it a great anti ager for your skin. In addition to this, Selenium’s antioxidant properties help with the renewal of vitamins E and C, thereby reducing premature aging.

Lycopene – Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant and a carotenoid that gives many fruits and vegetables their vibrant and rich red colour. Lycopene can improve the skins texture, preventing the ageing of skin, whilst keeping it looking younger, this is because Lycopene encourages collagen production and diminishes the damage caused by DNA that often leads to wrinkles.
