Calcium: What are the benefits?

Calcium is the most abundant mineral found in the body, it plays a vital role in the human body, helping to strengthen bones and teeth. A lack of calcium can cause the bone conditions rickets and osteoporosis.

People usually have a sufficient intake of calcium from eating a balanced healthy diet, however certain sorts of people may be at a higher risk of calcium deficiency than others. They may require additional calcium in their diets in order to prevent a deficiency from occurring. Deficiencies are common amongst; postmenopausal women, people who are lactose intolerant and vegetarians, who specifically avoid dairy products, such as milk and cheese.
